The best pan sets for your kitchen, tested by experts for non-stick and durability
Cook up a feast with our expert-tested pans

The best pan sets should heat up quickly and evenly, deliver delicious results, and be easy to clean afterwards (no scrubbing necessary). And while you can upgrade them one pan at a time, investing in a complete new set is likely to save you money in the long run, as brands often bundle items together at lower prices.
With our cookware going through so much use, it’s wise to invest in the best pan set you can afford. However, with some coming at premium prices, it can be tricky to know which are genuinely worth your money.
That’s where the Good Housekeeping Institute comes in, as we’ve tested a range of sets including Le Creuset, Tefal, Ninja and Hexclad to find the best. Check out our top picks below.

Tips for choosing the best pan sets
With so many brands offering pots and pans, it can be difficult to know what to choose. Celebrity chef, presenter and Great British Bake Off star, Briony May, has some quick tips to consider while shopping the best cookware sets.
- Check the pieces in the set: “You need between three and five sturdy pans to properly set you up in the kitchen,” says May. “Plus a large frying pan, as they're wonderfully versatile.”
- Choose the right material: “Above everything else, make sure the pots and pans are compatible with your hob. Most people gravitate towards non-stick but over time their coating can chip,” May says. “Stainless steel is a great option as an all-rounder.”
- Check for a warranty: “If you invest in a reputable brand, they tend to come with warranties – some are even lifetime ones! This will give you some peace of mind if anything goes wrong or breaks,” explains May.
To find the best pan sets, our experts test the non-stick claims by cooking up ingredients including mince, caramel and eggs across gas, electric and ceramic hobs. We also pop them in the oven and dishwasher (if the manufacturer claims it’s safe to do so) to see how they fare. You’ll find more detail on how we test pan sets below our reviews.
