Tesco has also given the humble spud a bit of pizazz with the addition of delicious, salted butter and slow-cooked garlic. The potatoes have a super soft, creamy middle with crisped, caramelised edges – you might want to leave them in the oven a little longer for that extra crunch.

Sainsbury’s Goose Fat Roast Potatoes

Using the more traditional goose fat, these naturally sweet spuds from Sainsbury’s are nicely seasoned with a long-lasting meaty flavour. And while not completely crispy, testers enjoyed the lovely fluffy middle.

We like to think Jamie keeps a bag of these frozen spuds on standby for when he’s not in the mood for peeling and chopping, and if it’s good enough for him...
Our testers thought these vegan-friendly roasties were well seasoned with salt, garlic and rosemary, describing the soft, fluffy middle and crunchy outer, as “similar to crispy smashed potatoes”.

You can rely on Waitrose for a traditional roast potato. Our testers described these as “warm” and “comforting”. They’re cooked in goose fat, but with no other herbs or obvious seasoning, they won’t overpower the rest of the festive plate.
