Whether it’s for low-key entertaining with a cracking glass of wine, or as the perfect pairing for a picky tea with our selection of the best supermarket canapes, there’s always a reason to have a tasty sharing bag of crisps (or three) in the cupboard.

And Christmas is the perfect time to push the boundaries, with brands bringing out lots of innovative festive flavours to tempt us, from roast turkey to those inspired by our favourite starters and indulgent cheeseboards.

The Good Housekeeping Institute got snacking to separate the weird from the wonderful.

How we test Christmas crisps

The Good Housekeeping Institute tested a selection of innovative new Christmas crisp flavours to find their top picks for 2025, with each presented to our panel “blind” to avoid brand bias. They were looking for snacks with a clearly identifiable flavour that truly captured the taste of Christmas.

Merry crisp-mas one and all!

UK Taste Approved(GH)
The Best Spicy Prawn Cocktail Ridge Cut Crisps

Score: 84/100

There was some debate as to whether prawn cocktail counted as festive, but this limited-edition thick, ridge-cut crisp was just too good to gate-keep.

Morrisons has taken inspiration from the classic Christmas starter and dialled up the spice. It was described as “the perfect prawn cocktail crisp” by one tester, and we’ll be serving ours alongside a negroni. Cheers!

Savoursmiths Christmas Ham With Umami Truffle Glaze

UK Taste Approved(GH)
Christmas Ham With Umami Truffle Glaze

Score: 81/100

Savoursmiths' posh crisps would be equally at home at a drinks party alongside canapés, as in our leftover turkey Boxing Day sandwich. These are, surprisingly, vegan-friendly, and while lightly spiced festive ham is the dominant flavour, the truffle acts as a delicious background note, to avoid overpowering.

A luxe crisp deserves the best, so don’t be afraid to crack open a bottle of champagne to serve alongside.

M&S Maple Bacon Flavour Combo Mix

UK Taste Approved(GH)
Maple Bacon Flavour Combo Mix

Score: 78/100

This fun mega mix will appeal to the whole family and has been given the M&S maple treatment for Christmas. Our testers enjoyed the variety of textures and shapes and found each had a good coating of sweet and salty smoky bacon seasoning. Enjoy with a glass of sparkling tea, for the non-drinkers.

Kettle Chips Brie & Caramelised Onion

Brie & Caramelised Onion

Score: 75/100

Cheeseboard purists may want to look away now, because Kettle Chips has taken inspiration from an oozy brie and combined it with caramelised onion to flavour this Parisian-inspired snack.

The result? Sweet and salty with hints of rosemary and garlic – it’s the ultimate posh cheese and onion crisp and will work with a variety of dips.

The combination of meaty roast duck, infused with delicate spiced clementine, results in a well-seasoned snack that’s well suited to the festive season. Our testers confirmed these have an excellent crunch, and we think they’d be delicious served alongside a rum-based cocktail such as a mai tai.
