Game Mania returns as Dutch pure player

Almost a year after its bankruptcy, Belgian game store chain Game Mania makes a remarkable comeback. However, it will no longer own physical stores, and just operate as a pure online player.

Low costs, low prices

On 31 July, the company will re-launch the Belgian and Dutch webshops, local newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen reports. The new owner, Dutch entrepreneur René van Tuijl, aims to be the cheapest and is even considering a lowest price guarantee. Van Tuijl is himself a wholesaler in physical games.

Game Mania was declared bankrupt in September 2024. At that time, the chain had thirty stores (twelve in the Netherlands and eighteen in Belgium) and employed 120 people. In addition to the digitisation of the gaming sector, increasing cost pressure also played a role. The new owner therefore wants no more stores to keep costs low.
