Non-food discounter Pepco has presented a restructuring plan for its German operations, which are under court protection. The retailer is closing a significant portion of its store network: of the 64 stores, only 36 will remain.
Basis for future growth
In recent weeks, the management has conducted a detailed analysis of the branch network in Germany and the economic prospects of each individual store. Thirty-six stores were assessed as “promising.” The remaining 28 branches will be closed by the end of January 2026, following a clearance sale, due to a lack of economic prospects. The head office in Berlin will also be downsized: approximately 165 of the roughly 500 employees in Germany will be laid off in the near future.
