Otto has closed its Dutch webshop after a “final sale” that began in August. The German online retailer suffered heavy losses in the Dutch market.
Orders no longer possible
In August, the online store announced that its Dutch operations would be shut down. The retailer cited “significant operational losses and poor economic prospects” in the German trade journal Lebensmittel Zeitung. Otto now wants to focus on German-speaking markets.
The webshop on otto.nl is now closed, and replaced with a message that states that Otto “has stopped selling items in the Netherlands” and that it is “no longer possible to place orders on otto.nl.” However, it is still possible to return products.
The German group stresses that its other webshops (Bonprix, Heine, Limango, Witt and Your Look for less) are still active in the Netherlands. Missing from this list is Lascana: there, too, a message is posted stating that ordering is no longer possible. Unlike otto.nl, however, Lascana states that the closure is “temporary” and that “a renewed Lascana experience” will reopen next year.
