Nineteen MEPs from Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain are sounding the alarm over the new agreement with the United States that the European Union is preparing. Former retailer Yvan Verougstraete, founder of Belgian chain Medi-Market, is the first signatory of the open letter.
“Act of submission”
In an open letter, which De Standaard published, the nineteen MEPs argue that Europe is “completely submitting to Washington” and that the treaty does not mean economic strengthening, but is unilateral and disturbing. “Accepting such an agreement means admitting that Europe can no longer decide its own future”, the letter states.
