The Belgian federal government wants to impose a tax of two euros on parcels from outside the European Union with a value of less than 150 euros. In times of budgetary crisis, an old European proposal suddenly becomes an interesting way to reduce the budget deficit.
Participation in customs costs
On Friday, the ruling party Les Engagés came up with a proposal to levy a tax on parcels that are currently not subject to customs duties, De Standaard reported. Chairman Yvan Verougstraete considers it a viable way to balance the budget, on top of a series of already announced savings.
