Jack Ma is making a comeback at Alibaba. The founder’s return coincides with an acceleration in artificial intelligence and cloud technology as competitive pressures mount in China.
Informal comeback
The co-founder is again actively meddling in the e-commerce giant’ s strategy, albeit without an official title, Bloomberg reports. According to insiders, he regularly requests updates on AI projects and interferes in strategic decisions. For example, Ma is said to have personally pushed for 50 billion Chinese yuan (about 6.8 billion euros) in subsidies to parry the advance of rival JD.com.
