Exemptions are being scrapped
Officials and retailers alike have been complaining for months, if not years, that customs services are drowning in cheap parcels from China. Platforms such as Shein and Temu are taking full advantage of the rule that parcels worth less than 150 euros entering the European Union are exempt from customs charges. No less than 91 % of the 4.6 billion parcels that fell below the exemption threshold last year came from China.
