Die Grenze is currently the fastest growing retail chain in the Netherlands. One could call it the new Action: a discount concept where owner Bert Hesselink sells remnant stock, from Easter eggs that are just about to expire to mini vibrators—because “ladies want affordable vibrations”. Its 76th store recently opened in Amsterdam.

The Twente-based discount retailer Die Grenze opened its first Amsterdam branch last week. It should have been the eightieth branch, had founder Bert Hesselink not closed four stores due to their small size. The chain, which relies entirely on buying up surplus stock, sees room for 125 to 150 branches in the coming years.
