Black Friday once again generated a wave of payment records. In Belgium, Worldline recorded “the busiest transaction day ever,” while in the US, AI drove online sales to unprecedented heights. The Netherlands, meanwhile, set a new weekly record.
Belgium: both physical and online peaks
Payment service provider Worldline recorded 16.2 million electronic payment transactions on Black Friday, an increase of 7% compared to 2024. Black Friday is thus continuing to grow as the national shopping event. The share of e-commerce payments reached 27.09% on that day, compared to a 24-month average of 20%. However, physical store transactions were also noticeably higher than on other Fridays in November, and the following Saturday remained exceptionally busy.
