Italian authorities are investigating possible large-scale customs and tax fraud involving Chinese imports via Amazon. The e-commerce platform allegedly acted as a “Trojan horse” for goods entering Italy without paying VAT or customs duties.
Raids in Bergamo and Milan
The financial police Guardia di Finanza and the customs service raided two Amazon sites on Monday. Dozens of agents seized around 5,000 products at a logistics center in Cividate al Piano (Bergamo). These included toys, smartphone cases, air fryers, and pens. At the headquarters in Milan, investigators took IT equipment and identified the manager responsible for the flow of goods within Italy.
