(update) Amazon is aiming for less bureaucracy and more artificial intelligence. The tech giant wants to cut around 30,000 office jobs, but will hire more people in some positions, resulting in a net loss of 14,000 jobs.
Fewer managers, more AI
CEO Andy Jassy wants to “get rid of unnecessary layers of management” at Amazon and flatten the organization. He previously said that “AI agents and generative AI systems will make some jobs redundant, but will also create other roles.” According to him, “total office occupancy is likely to decline in the coming years.”
