The Court of Justice of the European Union has ruled that Amazon is indeed a “Very Large Online Platform.” This means that the American giant must comply with the strictest European rules regarding, amongst other things, the detection of counterfeits and the handling of customer data.
Is the DSA illegal?
Amazon had contested the legality of the criteria used to determine which online platforms are ‘Very Large’, arguing that the strict conditions of the Digital Services Act (DSA) violated its freedom of to conduct a business, right to property and the principle of equality, but its case was rejected.
