Dutch online supermarket Picnic has raised 430 million euros from its existing shareholders. This capital will mainly be used to support rapid growth in Germany, where Picnic says it is now the market leader.
Expanding reach
Picnic is systematically expanding into new regions in Germany, but that means new distribution centres must also be added on a regular basis. In June, for example, the online supermarket opened a fully robotised centre in Oberhausen. However, such investments also come with a hefty price tag: in the case of Oberhausen alone, the cost was 150 million euros.
