The Nutri-Score in itself has little impact on the buying behaviour of online shoppers. What does make a difference, is the order in which products are displayed in a webshop, a study by the University of Antwerp suggests.
Filtering on Nutri-Score
Supermarkets each present their online range in their own way: some websites show the Nutri-Score for each product, others do not show it immediately. Some supermarkets even do not allow filtering on the Nutri-Score, Elke Godden says. She is a postdoctoral marketing researcher at the University of Antwerp, and has studied how supermarkets can encourage customers to make healthier choices via their websites: “Does the design of a website influence what customers buy? When do they make the healthiest choices? And do they then also spend more money?”
