The consumption of meat and other animal proteins must be significantly reduced worldwide to prevent further devastating consequences for public health and the environment, according to the new Eat-Lancet report.
Excessive consumption of meat and dairy
In a recently published update to its earlier 2019 study, the international Eat-Lancet Commission concludes that food systems account for approximately 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions and are thus the main driver of planetary boundary overshoot. Even a complete transition away from fossil fuels will not be enough if food patterns do not change.
