Marks & Spencer is looking for 500 locations for additional food stores and wants to renovate more than half of its stores over the next three years. The decision follows the strong performance of M&S Food over the past three years.
Larger surface area
M&S wants to double its food business and is therefore looking for new, larger locations for its food stores. 500 areas in the United Kingdom are on the new list of potential locations. The retailer is particularly looking for larger locations where the full M&S Food range can be offered. As a result, the average floor space of the food stores will grow to around 18,000 square feet, or 1,670 m², the retailer said in a press release.
“The strong performance of our new M&S Food stores gives us the confidence to explore even more locations in the United Kingdom, from Elgin to Exmouth,” said Alex Freudmann, managing director of M&S Food. Between November and March, M&S will open 20 new or refurbished stores. By April 2028, the retailer aims to have refurbished more than half of its stores, including smaller convenience stores.
