Schwarz Group, the parent company of supermarket chains Lidl and Kaufland, is building a huge data centre in Germany to boost its AI capabilities. This is the largest investment in the company’s history.
Also for external customers
Up to 100,000 special AI chips (GPUs) will be installed in the new data centre in Lübbenau, in the German state of Brandenburg. By way of comparison, Deutsche Telekom and Nvidia are currently building a data centre in Munich for “only” 10,000 GPUs. The first construction phase of the Schwarz Digits Data Center is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, with an initial connection capacity of around 200 megawatts. It can then be expanded modularly in two construction phases, reports Lebensmittel Zeitung.
