Gui de Vaucleroy, former CEO and chairman of Delhaize, has passed away at the age of 92. He was the driving force behind the supermarket chain’s international expansion.
Internationalisation
De Vaucleroy was Delhaize’s managing director from 1990 to 1998 and then chairman of the board of directors from 1998 to 2004. He worked for the company for a total of 44 years. From 1999 to 2002, he was also chairman of the Federation of Belgian Enterprises.
Under his leadership, Delhaize accelerated its international expansion in Czechia, Greece and the United States, among other countries. De Vaucleroy was also a strong supporter of the merger between Delhaize and Ahold in 2016.
