After eight years at the helm of Delhaize in Belgium, Xavier Piesvaux moves to Romania to lead Ahold Delhaize‘s local operations. He is familiar with the country, having led Mega Image there between 2006 and 2015.
Dynamic market
Piesvaux will become country manager of Ahold Delhaize Romania on 1 January. In this role, he will report directly to Claude Sarrailh, CEO of Ahold Delhaize Europe & Indonesia, and will be responsible for the further expansion and transformation of the local brands Mega Image and Profi. Their respective Brand Presidents, Mircea Moga and Mihai Spulber, will report to him.
Earlier this year, Ahold Delhaize completed the acquisition of the Profi supermarket chain in Romania, which was once part of the Louis Delhaize group and was later owned by an investment fund. “Romania is one of the most dynamic markets in our portfolio, with a loyal customer base and a great need for innovation. Our presence with two brands in the country offers significant growth opportunities”, Sarrailh said.
According to the retailer, Piesvaux is well positioned to provide Mega Image and Profi with greater focus, agility, and strategic support: as brand president of Mega Image from 2006 to 2015, he led the company’s rapid expansion in Romania. In Belgium, the CEO revitalised Delhaize with a strong focus on fresh and healthy products and steered the organization toward a business model with a fully franchised store network.
