On Wednesday, Cactus opened a new shopping center in Esch-Lallange, Luxembourg, with a 7,000 m² hypermarket as its main attraction, the third largest for the market leader in the Grand Duchy.
Investment of 150 million euros
The new shopping center in the south of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg covers more than 65,000 m², 7,000 m² of which is occupied by a brand-new hypermarket, replacing a smaller Cactus supermarket nearby. It is the third-largest hypermarket for Cactus, after those in Belle Étoile and Bascharage.
The accompanying shopping gallery covers 5,000 m² and houses 15 stores, including Medi-Market, Black & White, Cocottes, 5àSec, Mister Minit, and Emile Weber. There is also a 600 m² liquor store, a parking lot with 800 spaces on two covered floors, and 67 residences. This represents an investment of 150 million euros, which, according to the group, will create 150 direct and indirect jobs.
Despite increased competition from large groups such as Delhaize, Auchan, and E.Leclerc, the family-owned Cactus group remains the undisputed market leader in the Grand Duchy, with 16 supermarkets and hypermarkets under the Cactus name, nine Cactus Marché city stores, three Cactus hobby and garden centers, and 39 Cactus shoppi franchise stores.
