A radical redrawing of the French retail landscape is imminent: Auchan plans to operate its nearly 300 French supermarkets under the Intermarché and Netto banners.
From the end of 2026?
Auchan Retail announced a surprising strategic move in a press release today: the retail group wants to become a franchisee of Groupement Mousquetaires, so that it can operate its 294 French supermarkets under the Intermarché and Netto banners. Under the new model, the stores would still be operated by Auchan Retail, through the creation of a new autonomous legal entity. The reasoning is that, as a franchisor, Intermarché can offer the outlets greater flexibility, better performance, more value for customers, and more opportunities for employees.
