Rituals joins “the race to climate neutrality”

Rituals wants to be climate neutral by 2050. The cosmetics brand is joining the current “climate race”, it says, and aims initially to reduce carbon emissions by 50 % by 2030.

20% turnover from refills

Rituals is accelerating its sustainability ambitions and aims to be climate neutral by 2050. The brand says it is joining “the race to climate neutrality” by contributing to a “virtually emission-free future” in two ways: by reducing its own greenhouse gas emissions and by supporting nature restoration projects outside its value chain.

In the coming years, the cosmetics chain will work on sustainable ingredients for its products, more refillable packaging and more recycled and recyclable packaging materials. Today, 20 % of turnover already comes from refill products and refills. Within the supply chain, Rituals strives to ensure local sourcing, efficient distribution and low-emission transport.

Looking for partners

The company also aims to use more environmentally friendly marketing and shop materials. By 2030, carbon emissions per product are to be reduced by half. To achieve this, the chain is actively seeking partnerships with suppliers and other players in the beauty sector.

Outside the company, initiatives are being taken to contribute to the “decarbonisation”: Rituals wants to offset the remaining emissions. For example, the cosmetics brand is planting one tree in mangrove forests in India and Kenya for every refill sold, with the aim of planting five million trees by the end of 2022. The chain is still looking for other carbon offset projects.
