Commemorating the day you tied the knot is one of the most special times of the year for a couple. Romantic dinners, vow renewals and gift exchanges are only some of the ways couples celebrate. But nothing beats a romantic getaway with your partner.

"Taking a vacation, even a short one, for your anniversary is the best way to celebrate your love," says Karen Cicero, Good Housekeeping's contributing travel editor. "A few years from now, you might not remember what your partner bought you for your anniversary, but the memories from traveling will stick with you."

So who gets to pick where to go? For anniversary trips, first discuss what you want the overall pace and vibe of the trip to be. If you agree, great! If not, choose a flexible destination. "For instance, you can spend one day lounging on a beach in San Diego and another exploring the downtown cultural attractions," says Cicero. Regardless of what type of getaway you’re looking for, this list has something for you: from glamping in the Caribbean to carriage rides in Canada.

Once you decide where you and the love of your life will be celebrating the day you said "I do," you can take a look at our list of things you should always do before going on vacation.

Where to Stay: "The Inn on Turner in Beaufort is both romantic and centrally located," Cicero says. "Daily breakfast, made with locally-grown, organic ingredients, is included in your rate."
