Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup warm water (105°F to 115°F)
  • 1 package rapid-rise yeast
  • 1 tsp. plus 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup whole milk, heated to lukewarm (105°F to 115°F)
  • 6 Tbsp. unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 tsp. Kosher salt
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs

Directions

    1. Step 1In large bowl, combine warm water, yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar; stir to dissolve. Let stand until foamy, about 5 minutes.
    2. Step 2With mixer at low speed, stir warm milk, butter, salt, remaining 1⁄4 cup sugar and 1 cup flour into yeast mixture. Increase speed to medium; beat 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally with rubber spatula. Beat in eggs, 1 at a time, and 1 cup flour; continue beating 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. With spoon, stir in remaining 1⁄2 cup flour.
    3. Step 3Grease and flour 81⁄2" by 41⁄2" loaf pan. Transfer dough into prepared pan; with greased hands or offset spatula, pat dough evenly into pan. Cover pan with slightly damp towel; let rise in warm place until dough has doubled, about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
    4. Step 4 Heat oven to 350°F. Bake bread until top is golden brown and bottom sounds hollow when lightly tapped with fingers, 30 to 35 minutes. With paring knife, loosen bread from side of pan; remove from pan to cool on wire rack.
