Robin Roberts is helping future broadcast journalists in a way that's close to her heart.
For over two decades, Robin's followers have known her as a news anchor on Good Morning America. But the TV star is also a proud graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University, where she got her education and developed an interest in journalism.
While Robin has gone back to her alma mater over the years, ABC News reported her recent visit to the school on October 17 marked with a special occasion. The host was on hand to open the new Robin Roberts Broadcast Media Center, a place where current students have the chance to work on achieving their dreams in journalism. And if that wasn't enough, Robin made sure to mark the moment on Instagram with an emotional message about what this meant to her.
"What an unforgettable weekend celebrating the opening of the Robin Roberts Broadcast Media Center at my beloved alma mater …Southeastern Louisiana University!" she wrote on October 20. "Grateful for the many incredible people who worked so hard to bring this vision to life."
As soon as Robin shared her thoughts on having a building at her college named after her, fans all left inspirational notes for her.
"🌞 This is magnificent. Congratulations again Robin Roberts and all involved," one person wrote in the comments. "Congratulations!! What an incredible gift of dreams you have given to many lives 💛," another exclaimed. "How exciting! An amazing tribute to you and your legacy! ❤️👏🏾," a different follower added.
As the news outlet noted, the Robin Roberts Broadcast Media Center has three production studios, a soundstage, a TV set and a news studio for students to use. Additionally, the center features a wall highlighting Robin's career, giving students inspiration throughout their time in school.
But as Robin told the audience at the building's opening ceremony, there's more to the center than just having her name attached to it.
"What's most important is not the name on the side of the building," she said in an official statement. "It's what's inside this building, and it's hope, it's dreams. It's making those dreams come true."
Congrats!
